Do You Like Huey Lewis and the News?
The “Everything is Red” video features the evolution of 9 mini-paintings imported and synced up using an old version of Windows Movie Maker. Each painting was done on an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of Bristol Board and featured a mixture of enamel, acrylic, and ink.
Although a considerably easier production than “Ever is a Long Time” (also stubbornly executed using Movie Maker), keeping track of the 192-individual pieces of scanned art was still a monumental, but satisfying task.
Work on the paintings began in late-2017 on top of a clear plastic tarp laid out on my garage floor and was completed in early-March while the band recorded tracks at Third City Sound for our upcoming debut album…
During those first couple of days, this scene from the (2000) film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho played continuously inside my head as layers of red began to build:
Fearing a mental breakdown, production was promptly moved onto an inconspicuous dark fabric drop cloth and into my basement.
